My church was a member of this hateful organization when I was growing up and the things my church engrained on me, made me the wonderful man I am and taught me to hate what I am. I could never run far enough away to escape the shame I felt for who I am. I know all of this is going to be hard for some of you to hear. But it happened. And I found out this morning their views have not changed and have only hardened. They want to overturn the supreme court decision that made me feel like a person. I don't know if my church is still a member of this organization. I certainly hope not. The Southern Baptist Convention has lost 3.6 million members. Hopefully my church is one of them. I don't know, I don't care. I thought churches were supposed to be inclusive. I thought we were all God's children. I thought God did not make mistakes. I feel sure they would still take my money and thoroughly tell me I was still going to hell. The church I grew up in is bigger than any church I've ever seen in Miami. And it is not the largest church in this county. Today I have decided I wash my hands of organized religion. It is for the few, not for the many. This kills me because my church was so important to my mother. But mom, they hate me. What would you have me do.
