MY birthday is on Saturday. So I’m going to say what the fuck I want.

Here are the facts:

= Anthropic’s software was declared a national security risk. (Because Anthropic would not let the Department of War do whatever they wanted with their software.) = Whatever. This just made Claude more valuable and increased Anthropic’s reputation. = The Trump administration is doing all they can to kill Anthropic. = The CEO of Anthropic did not bow down and kiss the ring. They did not donate millions upon millions to Trump’s ballroom. = Anthropic released a new model named Mythos. Anthropic did not release this model to the general public because of how powerful it is, particularly in cybersecurity. They made it available only to companies in high-risk situations — such as banks and infrastructure providers — through a program called Project Glasswing. (yes there is a such thing as a glass wing butterfly. The wings are transparent) This was so that they could ensure safeguards were in place before broader release. = Anthropic then created a model called Fable — which is the same underlying model as Mythos, but with safety guardrails added. Fable was the version made available to the general public. = Fable was available for about a week. = On Friday, June 12th, Anthropic received a phone call giving them 90 minutes to pull their Fable model. Anthropic did. = The Trump administration’s export control directive required that only US nationals be able to access these models. This means some of Anthropic’s own employees who helped build the model cannot use it. It is also effectively impossible for Anthropic to fully enforce. This kills the model in practice. = People in the artificial intelligence industry are very worried this has killed the AI industry in America. Why would you spend money and resources building something that the American government can call you about on a Friday afternoon and give you 90 minutes to kill? Luckily, Fable had only been released for about a week. If it had been out there longer and other people had started building products that depended on it, the government just effectively killed their products as well. = I am not against regulation for AI. Quite the opposite. But there are no rules. There are no regulations. The Trump administration is just doing whatever they want. = The most recent statistic says that 70% of Americans are against AI and AI data centers. Most Americans have no idea what artificial intelligence is. That thing on your iPhone that predicts the next word you want to type — that is a rudimentary form of what we now call artificial intelligence. Before a few years ago it was called machine learning. Chinese developers were early pioneers in predictive text input, because they had to type thousands of different characters using a western QWERTY keyboard. They created software that would predict what you were trying to type. That is one of the births of what we now call artificial intelligence, and it happened a long damn time ago. More than 30% of the population is already using artificial intelligence. I hate to tell you. Just look at your Facebook feed. = Most artificial intelligence experts agree that if China is behind the US in artificial intelligence, it’s only by about six months. = I believe this administration is ruining this country. = I know an awful lot of Republicans. I’ve dated a few of them. Some of them are my best friends. I don’t believe they understood what they were voting for.
