Diary of a Blind American

10% for God

Entry #56.0 July 5th, 2026

First we are going to talk about my antipsychotic. I am going to describe what it feels like to be manic. You are constantly asking yourself, what's next? Let's just say I have a lot going on right now.

Next we are going to talk about tipping. I worked for outback steakhouse for entirely too long of my life. Although I did enjoy most of it. It was always hard to get servers to work on any given Sunday in Spartanburg South Carolina. You did not make money that day. I once had a table tell me I only give God 10%, why should I give you any more. And needless to say I made pennies off that table. At the time, and I feel sure it's the same now, servers got paid less than minimum wage because they were tipped, and we had to tip out 3% of our sales to the host, bus boy and bartender. So if you only get a 10% tip, it's really only a 7% tip. If you got paid in cash, you never told the government about it. You only have to report tips on credit cards. As long as it reached a certain minimum of your sales percentage. Then I got to South Beach. My outback there was in the first floor of a oceanfront hotel where prices were a little bit more expensive to say the least. Lol IF you got paid more as a server, it was not by much. Still everything you made came from tips basically. Paying taxes on your credit card tips basically ate your entire paycheck when you are a server. This may have changed now, I doubt it has changed yet. In South Beach, during certain weekends, the locals just straight up leave the beach. They will go stay with a friend across the bridge, and they will shut down their business because it's not worth it. So the point of this post, there are bad days everywhere. Always tip your server. If someone is asking for a tip it's usually because somewhere in the chain someone is getting fucked by the company they are working for. How much? That I really cannot tell you anymore. Prices have gone up a bit. And unlike God, I have to pay rent. That is a piss poor excuse from the Bible belt. If you don't have money to tip, go to the Wendy's in Union South Carolina and wonder what that extra flavor is in your burger. You might just want to stay home…
